Bonnie & Clyde

One of our favorite places to visit is Roger and Gayla’s ranch near Maurine, South Dakota.  Gayla is Wesley’s sister, and the ranch is about 70 miles from us, Southeast down the Bixby road.

Roger, Gayla, and Tayton recently added five Clydesdales to their growing list of farm animals.  And, two were pregnant!  We’ve all been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the foals, and are excited that “Bonnie” and “Clyde” are finally here!

Gayla sent Matthew these beautiful pictures this morning.

Zippers? No big deal!

znbd7

Atkinson Designs “wowed” us at Spring Market with a new program, the “Snip, Zip & Go” zippers.

Zippers?

I know, I know… bad junior high home-ec  flashbacks.

But, don’t stop reading.  Terry Atkinson was a home-ec teacher before she was an amazing quilt designer.  She’s a zipper expert.  She breaks down the zipper technique into a fun, creative, process designed for success.

First, she makes it easy to buy the “right zipper,”  in the “right color,”  for the “right price!”

snipzipgocolorcard350

Available individually or buy a bundle that includes one of each.

Next, she designs three amazing patterns for the zippers.  The patterns are well written, include excellent diagrams, and feature fun, useful projects,  allowing you to express your creativity.

Cash & Carry, Zippy Strippy, & Pockets to Go.

Finally, she teaches me (the shop owner/teacher), how to teach you.  This afternoon, I prepared a demo binder for the basic “Cash & Carry” wallet according to Terry’s excellent instructions.  It does help, after all, if I know what I’m doing too.

The basic steps in this little wallet are repeated for the other small bags, just with different dimensions, pockets,  and trims or embellishment.

Terry’s exactly right…

ZIPPERS ARE NO BIG DEAL!

Click here to shop.  And don’t forget to check out her two new quilt patterns:

Jelly roll/bali pop friendly, the quilts “Popsicle Sticks” & “Urban Cabin” quilts are simply lovely.

I hope you have as much fun with this as I do…. I’m currently waiting for Wesley to come home from the shop with a complete zipper assortment for me to work with… I’ve got some sewing to do!

Enjoy.

I just posted the “Vintage Memories” program to the website, click here.

As you can see, the descriptions are pretty detailed.  We know that joining a BOM is a commitment, we like to be organized, and we want our members to be well-informed.

If you’re interested in making this quilt, consider the three possibilities:

  • All-over kit.  Ships asap, with or without backing yardage. You’ll save $20, single shipping charge is less than monthly programs.
  • Individual BOM membership.  Ships over 5 months, so cost is nicely spaced out. It’s fun to get each fabric packet in the mail, and the project seems less overwhelming.
  • Group membership.  Groups of two or more save on the base cost of the kits, and combined shipping to a single address is more affordable.  Perfect for small sewing groups, quilt guilds, friends, family members, or neighbors.

Sherri was kind enough to lend us her finished “Vintage Memories” quilt, and it is simply beautiful.  The pattern is a perfect fit for the romantic elegance of the “Martinique” prints.

Stop in at the shop to check it out, or visit our booth at the Rapid City Quilt show.  But don’t wait too long.  Spots are limited, and we don’t want you to be disappointed.

Now, for some “eye candy”… Check out these pretty blocks!  You’ll make them in pairs. Each one seems prettier than the last.

If you haven’t previously tried quilting “block-of-the-month” style, I highly recommend it.  Avoid  “piecing fatigue” as you try different techniques, work with a variety of fabrics, and experience a delightful sense of accomplishment.

Imagine some simple throw pillows made from my favorite prints in the collection.

Imagine me snuggling up on the sofa, under the quilt, with a mug of Hot Cocoa splashed with Bailey’s, watching “It’s a Wonderful Life”

Consider me happy.  Really, really happy.

Now… I just have to find that darn sofa!

A “Slice” for the Quilting Life

pinkslicestarterset

Coming soon to DCQ: the “Slice” Cordless Digital Design Cutter by Making Memories

One of our favorite “finds” at Spring Market was the “Slice”  digital cutter… this useful gadget opened our eyes to a whole new world of quilting & applique possibilities!

A natural evolution from the Scrapbooking world to the Quilting world… this digital cutter is a wonderful answer for all of the quilters who love the look and creativity of  fusible applique, but aren’t so crazy about the tracing and cutting process.

From garments, to home decor, to memory quilts and more… this handheld digital design cutter can easily cut fabric shapes for fusible applique.

Plus, if you are a scrapbooker, you’ll be able to use the cutter for paper too!

I think it would be great for teachers, or anyone involved in designs for bulletin boards or poster boards.  Click here for project ideas….

Hmmm… looks like the quilting projects haven’t been added yet… but I’m sure those will soon follow… “Slice” was just introduced to the quilting world this past weekend.  We watched a demo and it cut fabric (adhered to fusible web) effortlessly!

In my mind, the “Slice” will be perfect for making letters and floral applique motifs, and I plan to test it on a T-shirt quilt for my nephew’s high school graduation gift.

We’ve ordered our own unit for in-store/at-home use, and my scrapbooking sister-in-laws are itching to get their hands on it.

Click here  for a video showing how to cut fabric dye-cuts with the “Slice”.

Click here for a video showing the useful hands-free accessory kit, and a little more about how the unit works.

Here’s a photo album showing assorted design cards:

My favorite features:

  • can be used with fabric adhered to fusible web OR paper
  • a wide variety of motifs are available, with the starter set including two design cards (Basic Elements & Basic Elements Pink), plus many additional design cards currently available, with more to come
  • designs can be adjusted to a variety of sizes, or mirror image, increasing versatility
  • Making Memories will donate a portion of the proceeds from each sale of the Pink SLICE™ to help aid in the fight against breast cancer.

Our distributor is currently showing a delivery date in mid-June, and I’ve added the starter set (shown above), and a number of useful accessories to the website (Click here).

You’ll notice the “Slice” unit & all of the accessories are currently marked below MRSP.  However for a limited time, use this coupon code: dcqslice

And receive free shipping on all orders that include the Slice: "Think Pink" Cordless Digital Design Starter Set (MRSP $220, DCQ price $174.00).   As long as the starter set is in your cart, you’ll receive free shipping on your entire order.

Please note: Coupon code expires  Monday, June 7th.

Due to popular demand, we cannot promise an exact delivery date. We will allocate units first come, first serve.  Everyone who orders will eventually receive a unit, but exact delivery date cannot be guaranteed.

One last thing… consider DCQ’s “Slice” Bundle (click here).

This combination is bundled at special pricing, and includes the items I think would be especially useful.

  • MRSP for the items is $383.20.
  • DCQ price for the items (purchased separately) is $320.88.
  • Bundle price is $295.00... nearly $90 off the MRSP! Plus, free shipping!

Just In: Birds & Berries by Barb Tourtillotte

Birdhouses

I think you’ll see why we’re so excited about the arrival of the new “Birds & Berries” collection by Clothworks.

It has everything we look for in a Christmas collection:  stunning artwork, beautiful colors, and a nice combination of backgrounds, small scale accent pieces, and pretty focus fabric for borders and eye-catching blocks.

Most importantly, when I look at these prints, I can easily imagine them on my dining table, under my holiday tree, or in my front foyer.  These prints belong in a home.
